Cleaning and protecting leather shoes with EG-GÜ shoe care

Leather shoe care: 5 steps for clean, protected shoes

Smooth leather shoes stay well maintained for longer when dirt is removed regularly and the leather receives suitable care. These five steps combine cleaning, conditioning, protection and correct storage.

Check the leather type, colour and manufacturer’s instructions before care.

1. Remove the laces and dry dirt

Take out the laces and remove dust with a soft cloth or suitable brush. Also clean the sole edge, seams and the transition between the upper and sole.

2. Clean according to the material

Use only a cleaner suitable for the leather type, apply it sparingly and test it on an inconspicuous area. Nubuck, suede and similar surfaces require different methods from smooth leather.

3. Let the shoes dry slowly

Allow damp shoes to dry at room temperature. Direct heat can dry out or deform leather. Shoe trees or loosely inserted clean paper can help preserve the shape.

4. Condition smooth leather and polish if required

Apply a small amount of suitable care product thinly and evenly. For compatible smooth leather surfaces, Brilliant Gel 50 ml can condition and refresh the appearance. For quick care between wears, use Express Shine 6 ml. Express Shine is not suitable for suede.

Apply care thinly and only to compatible smooth surfaces.

5. Protect against moisture

After cleaning and conditioning, a material-compatible protector can help reduce moisture and dirt adhesion. The Power Protector 250 ml is intended for selected leather, textile and climate-membrane materials. Use sprays in a well-ventilated area and only on completely dry shoes.

Storage and care frequency

Store leather shoes in a dry, ventilated place away from direct sunlight. Remove light dirt promptly and perform more intensive care when the leather looks dry or dull.
