How Often Should You Air Shoes? Drying Them Properly
Shoes should be opened and aired after prolonged or damp wear. This allows stored moisture to escape and the interior materials to dry more evenly. The important point is that the shoe is fully dry before it is worn again.

Air after intensive wear
Open laces, hook-and-loop straps or zips fully. Pull the tongue forward and remove removable insoles. After sport, long walks or rain, let the shoes dry before wearing them again.
How long do shoes need to dry?
The time depends on the material, construction, room climate and amount of moisture. Slightly damp shoes may dry overnight, while heavily soaked footwear needs longer. Check the lining, toe area and insoles, not only the outside.
Choose the right location
Use a dry, shaded and well-ventilated area. Do not place damp shoes in a closed bag or airtight container. Direct sunlight can affect colours; heaters and hair dryers can affect leather, foams and adhesives.
Absorb moisture carefully
Clean, absorbent and colourfast paper may be inserted loosely. Replace it when it becomes damp. Heavily printed newspaper may transfer ink.
Dry insoles separately
Removable insoles dry faster outside the shoe. Lay them flat in a ventilated place and reinsert them only when fully dry.
Rotate between pairs
For daily use, rotate between several pairs where possible. This gives each pair more time to dry, especially closed work and sports shoes.
Combine airing with care
Airing does not remove visible dirt. If dirt or persistent odour remains, clean the interior using a material-compatible method. The Shoe Deo 125 ml may be used according to the label, but it does not replace cleaning or complete drying.

Frequently asked questions
Do shoes need to be aired every day?
Airing is useful after long, warm or damp wear. After short use, simply check the condition of the interior.
Can wet shoes be placed on a heater?
No. Direct heat can dry out or deform materials and affect adhesives.
When is a shoe dry again?
When the lining, toe area and insole no longer contain residual moisture.
